Improving Acoustic Comfort in a Finnish School Corridor

2026-03-06

Project Background

A secondary school in Tampere, Finland recently upgraded several interior areas to improve the daily learning environment.

While classrooms had already been acoustically optimized, the corridors remained a source of noise, especially during class transitions and break times when large numbers of students moved between rooms.

The Challenge
School corridors are high-traffic spaces where sound easily reflects off hard surfaces such as floors, walls, and ceilings. This often creates echo and background noise, which can spread into nearby classrooms and study areas.

At the same time, the facility management team needed a ceiling solution that could maintain proper airflow for the building’s ventilation system, comply with fire-safety standards, and remain durable for everyday school use. The school also preferred a solution that could be installed without major changes to the existing ceiling system.

The Solution
To address these requirements, the project implemented GRECHO Airflow Premium Dot Pattern Facing as part of the corridor ceiling system.
Designed for acoustic ceiling applications where airflow performance is essential, the material allows air to pass through easily while working with fiberglass acoustic panels to support sound control.
The clean dot-pattern surface also provides a simple, modern appearance that fits well with educational environments. In addition, the material offers reliable fire resistance, durability, and resistance to moisture and mold, making it suitable for long-term use in public buildings.

Client Feedback
After the installation, the school’s facility team noted a clear improvement in the corridor environment. Noise reflections were reduced, and the corridors now feel calmer and more comfortable during busy periods.

Teachers also mentioned that nearby classrooms experience less sound disturbance from corridor activities, helping maintain a better learning atmosphere throughout the day.
